Decker Ngongang

Director, Community Engagement and Organizing, Teaching First

Decker Ngongang is Director of Community Engagement and Organizing, Communities for Teaching Excellence. Prior to joining Teaching First, he was Vice President for Programs at Mobilize.org, where he was responsible for managing all program operations.

Before joining the Mobilize.org staff, Ngongang was Executive Director of GenerationEngage, having started with the organization as a grassroots Outreach Coordinator in Charlotte, N.C. working with local organizations to engage young adults in civic participation.

His past experience includes working four years at Bank of America in a variety of positions the last of which was as Vice President / Operational Risk Manager for the Bank of America Corporate Investments Trading group. During Ngongang’s time at the bank he also served as an editorial columnist for the Charlotte Observer, Charlotte Viewpoint, Creative Loafing, and wrote several book reviews for Pride Magazine.

In 2003 Ngongang received a B.A. from North Carolina State University, where he studied Political Science and Legal Philosophy and served as 2003 Senior Class President. He was also a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Born in Charlotte, N.C., Decker now resides in Washington, D.C.
