Kristen Bennett

Associate Program Director, National Service

March 28, 2014
Kristen joined NCoC in March 2014 as the Associate Program Director of National Service. In this role, Kristen works primarily on the development, implementation, and management of a national service certification program, in collaboration with the Franklin Project at the Aspen Institute.

Kristen came to NCoC from CaliforniaVolunteers – the state service commission, where she worked as an AmeriCorps Program Officer. In this capacity, she was responsible for evaluating AmeriCorps grant applications for funding, contributing to the development of Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps programs, and training, assessing, and monitoring an $8.5 million portfolio of AmeriCorps programs. During this time, she guided, coached, and advised well over thirty AmeriCorps programs across California to maximize their community impact while maintaining compliance.

Devoted to serving her hometown community after college, Kristen committed to a year of national service as an AmeriCorps VISTA in the Inland Empire, a region in Southern California. As a VISTA, Kristen served on California First Lady Maria Shriver’s WE Connect campaign, working to connect low-income families with valuable programs and resources to become more financially secure. While serving, Kristen built crucial community partnerships, trained and managed volunteers, and planned and implemented large-scale community events during tax season.

Kristen earned a Bachelor of Science in Planning, Public Policy, and Management from the University of Oregon and a Master of Public Policy and Administration from California State University, Sacramento. Kristen hails from California and is proud of her Mexican-American roots.
