Discussion: Defining American66th Annual National Conference on CitizenshipSeptember 23, 2011
NCoC aims to expand our nation's contemporary understanding of what it means to be a citizen. Citizenship may be about more than immigration status and could be explored through the lens of contribution to community vitality and collective civic progress. The civic sector needs a better way to respond to controversial issues to ensure they don't perpetuate in society, but can be thoughtfully addresses in order to address the underlying issues.
This conversation on how we define what it means to be American is between Jose Antonio Vargas, Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, openly undocumented immigrant, and founder of the Define American campaign, and Eric Liu, founder of Guiding Lights Network and former speechwriter for President Bill Clinton.
