MACON COUNTY, Alabama -- A group of Alabama high school students participated in the National Civic Data Challenge by creating posters to inform the public about the Alabama Civic Health Index.

Before starting the project, the students learned about the report’s findings and talked about the details of the Civic Data Challenge with partners on the Alabama Civic Health Index.

The students then worked with Mobile Studio artist Dan Neil and Auburn University landscape architecture professor Jocelyn Zanzot to produce posters with messages about the challenge's data on recycled paper to be placed around Macon County.

The Civic Data Challenge is a national initiative to turn statistics on “civic health” into useful applications and imagery that will encourage the public to participate in improving Alabama's civic life.

The David Mathews Center for Civic Life and the National Conference on Citizenship partnered on the Alabama Civic Health Index.

The complete 2011 Alabama Civic Health Index report is available online at the Alabama Civic Health Website .
