Levels of Citizen-Centered Engagement

* 33% attended a community meeting where there was discussion of community affairs
* 39% worked with other people in their neighborhood to fix or improve something
* 21% attended both a community meeting and worked with other people in the neighborhood to fix or improve something
* 26% tried to change local policies in a place like a school, workplace, or neighborhood
* 36 million people are engaged in citizen-centered work. Of those:

o More than 70% say they “always” vote in local and national elections
o 63% are officers of clubs
o 63% say they participate in campaigns and elections in several ways
o 6% have less than high school degree; 27% have graduate-level experience


Public Support of National Deliberation

* 53% of people say the best way to solve problems is through collaboration among citizens, non-profits and government
* 80% of Americans support a national deliberation (64% strongly) “involving more than one million Americans in a national discussion of an important public issue and requiring Congress to respond to what the citizens say.”

o 60% of Republicans, 70% of Democrats responded favoring strongly
o Millennials were most enthusiastic generation
o African Americans were most supportive of all racial/ethnic groups
